so, i think we can't forget why he was elected in the first place. he was elected in the first place because there wasn't any other candidate that was running that would care for the people of color that are in the jails better than ross could. and that still hasn't changed. those people are still in the jails and they still need the help of somebody like ross mirkarimi to try to give them a chance at redemption. and we hear that a lot, redemption. i'm a firm believer in redemption. i think for a minor incident for somebody to be taken permanently away is wrong no matter who it is. i defended three employees -- and this seems to be a pattern with the mayor -- at the hospital. you don't hear about these employees because they're not ross mirkarimi. they're not public workers. but they're reaching back into people's histories, people that have worked five, 10 years with no problem on the job, and trying to fire them now. so, this is not just a one-time thing. that's why to me this is a labor issue. because if they can get away with it with ross mirkari

but i think it would have helped to have had more of a comprehensive view of how our individual elections were impacting the whole. and also the long-term view of housing here in the city. because there was the 10th and market project, i know started out as for-sale units and asked for a conditional use to be considered as rental units. you know, 55 laguna, the project i worked foreperson seven and a halfs and we sat with open houses and debated whether that should be 100% affordable low-income senior housing or not or mixed-use housing? recently those project sponsors came back and wanted to maybe sacrifice some of the middle-income affordable housing for the financing of the senior housing? so that is -- these debates are endless. so i think again it would help to have just, you know, more holistic approach to this whole thing. i don't think we have the appropriate analyses sometimes or least i didn't feel that way when we were approving project-by-project things. and i think there is always room to include more information. and so i don't think the conversation ends today. >> thank you

i don't think i've ever seen a case like this where a owner has offered electively to create two below market rate units without any requirement to do so. and i think it's a good one because, as was pointed out, even though they're rent controlled, presumably the rent in pacific heights is fairly high and, you know, it's not going to go down any. when there's a vacancy, the rent is whatever the new rent is. and, so, -- and they're vacant now. affording to what my understanding is, if they were under inclusionary units, that's the 60th percentile ami, which means if they're rental that's what they would have to be rented for. i don't have the number off the top of my head. it would depend how many people you have. presumably you wouldn't have more than two per studio, although you could. that would -- i think that's the limit. and that sets what that rate is. if they were sold as condos, then it would be 100 percentile, it does make ami. there isn't anything that exists in pacific heights, a couple small units that could be purchased at a very affordable rate. normally i would be in fav

until the next election cycle. until the next election cycle. when i talk about each side, in this case, i mean the press and the candidates, even though that is not the most natural way to talk about an election. you think of the two sides in the election being the candidates, and yet, that is not the full story of an election, and on the other hand, just to go back for a second, i do think the press, in taking on the candidates, can call the right and wrong and the correct and the incorrect, and i hope there is a lot more of that, and i am probably running out of time. i will say that on the optimism front, can anyone imagine during the kennedy-nixon debates that we would all be watching it with twitter, that there would be fact checking, that there would be conversations going on? hearing him on the radio, he sounds a lot better. or anything like that. i think this is a great time for political coverage, and i hope that that turns out to be true in the next few weeks and that we do not instead see some degraded
